Fat Joe is mobilizing serious resources to help Colombia rebuild after a devastating earthquake left hundreds dead and thousands injured across the country.
The Bronx rapper and his Colombian wife, Lorena Cartagena, are personally bankrolling two full cargo planes loaded with 100 tons of critical supplies bound for the hardest-hit regions.
This isn’t just a donation; it’s a direct response to a crisis that’s still unfolding in real time.
On August 10, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Chocó region and rippled across western Colombia with catastrophic force.
The death toll stands at 331 people, with over 4,600 injured and 240 still missing as rescue operations continue.
The damage is staggering, totaling $9.6 billion and making this the deadliest earthquake to hit the country since 1999. Pereira and Armenia, two cities in the coffee-growing region, took the worst of it.
The supplies from Fat Joe’s funding are hitting the ground where they’re needed most. Non-perishable food, first-aid kits, and hygiene products are being distributed to families who lost everything in the collapse.
Fat Joe’s move puts him alongside other major artists stepping up with massive contributions to the relief effort. Beyoncé committed $1 million, while Shakira pledged $1.25 million to rebuild schools in affected areas.
Karol G donated $1.2 million through her foundation, and the band Morat is giving a portion of their ticket sales from upcoming shows.
