The casting lineup for Universal’s upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic keeps getting more stacked with each announcement, and now it has been revealed that Algee Smith is stepping into the role of Warren G.

The production has been assembling its ensemble cast over recent weeks, bringing together some serious talent to tell the story of Long Beach’s most iconic rapper and his rise through the West Coast Hip-Hop scene.

This is shaping up to be something special.

Jonathan Daviss, known for his work on Netflix’s “Outer Banks,” will portray Snoop Dogg himself, while Myles Bullock Be takes on the role of Dr. Dre. Camron

Jones is set to play Tupac Shakur, and Lauren London will appear as Snoop’s mother.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production is scheduled to begin mid-September in and around Los Angeles, so the timeline is moving fast.

Warren G’s significance to this story can’t be overstated. The Grammy-nominated rapper was instrumental in connecting Snoop Dogg with Dr. Dre, essentially launching the whole thing into motion.

He formed the 213 trio with Snoop and Nate Dogg back in the early 1990s, and his West Coast production style and hits like “Regulate” and “This D.J.” made him a cornerstone of that era.

Without Warren G’s introduction, the entire trajectory of Snoop’s career might’ve looked completely different.

Craig Brewer is directing the film, with Brian Grazer producing through Imagine Entertainment.

The production is moving at a serious pace, with everything set to roll in just a few weeks.
