Bruno Mars has tied Kendrick Lamar and SZA for the longest run at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in its 68-year history.

“I Just Might” logged its 31st week at No. 1 on the October 10-dated chart, matching the record set by Kendrick and SZA’s “Luther” across 2024 and 2025, according to Billboard and Luminate data.

The song posted 5.3 million official U.S. streams, a 51.9 million airplay audience, and 1,000 sales during the tracking week of September 25 through October 1. Those three measures feed the combined chart, which ranks the country’s most popular R&B and Hip-Hop songs.

Billboard has used the all-encompassing ranking since October 1958, making the tie a benchmark across several generations of soul, rap and R&B hits.

Mars released “I Just Might” through Atlantic Records in January as the lead single from The Romantic.

It debuted at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart dated January 24 and has surrendered the top position to only one track: Drake’s “Janice STFU,” which led for seven weeks from May into July.

The record gives Mars another major crossover benchmark. “I Just Might” became his 10th No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. It also reached No. 1 on the Pop Airplay and Rhythmic Airplay charts and climbed to No. 2 on Adult R&B Airplay.

This is Mars’ fifth No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. His earlier No. 1s were “That’s What I Like,” the Cardi B collaborations “Finesse” and “Please Me,” and “Leave the Door Open” with Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic.

The tie also keeps Kendrick and SZA at the center of the conversation.

“Luther,” from Kendrick’s GNX, used a sample from Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn’s version of “If This World Were Mine.”

Bruno Mars could take the crown if “I Just Might” holds for another week. But Drake and Don Toliver released new music on the October 2 HABIBTI deluxe edition, creating a fresh challenge before the next ranking arrives.
