D4vd faces a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s family exactly one year after her dismembered remains were discovered in his Tesla.
The suit names the singer along with his manager Josh Marshall, his mother Colleen Burke, security guard Sheldon Jacques, and company Mogul Vision as defendants in a case with 12 causes of action.
Celeste would have turned 16 on September 7, 2026, just one day before her family filed the lawsuit.
Instead, she remains frozen at 14 years old, her life cut short, allegedly by someone she trusted.
The family’s legal team, led by attorney Patrick Steinfeld, is seeking accountability from everyone around D4vd who allegedly knew or should have known about the abuse and failed to protect her.
According to court documents, D4vd arranged for Celeste to be transported to and from his Hollywood Hills residence starting in early 2024, a period when she repeatedly left her family’s home.
The suit alleges he enlisted Sheldon Jacques, his live-in security guard, to help remove her from her house and bring her to his place.
The people and companies surrounding D4vd knew or should have known about his alleged sexual exploitation of Celeste, the family claims, yet they did nothing to stop it.
The criminal case against D4vd remains equally brutal.
Prosecutors believe he killed Celeste around April 23, 2025, then dismembered her body with a chainsaw in an inflatable pool at his residence.
Her head and torso went into a body bag, her limbs into a garbage bag, and both were stuffed into the front trunk of his Tesla Model X.
The vehicle sat for months through the summer heat, and when authorities finally discovered it on September 8, 2025, Celeste’s decomposed body weighed just 71 pounds.
The medical examiner determined she died from multiple penetrating injuries.
D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, is charged with first-degree murder, lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and mutilating a body.
If convicted, he faces either life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
The family has already stated they support capital punishment, describing him as someone “without conscience.”
A judge ordered him to stand trial in July after a five-day preliminary hearing, and prosecutors have indicated the death penalty remains on the table.
The family’s wrongful death lawsuit also comes as D4vd claims to be broke, having transferred two Texas homes to his mother in October 2025 and switched to a public defender after his private legal team withdrew from the case.
